UNIVERSITÉ PARIS DAUPHINE
Established in 1968, the Université Paris Dauphine is a leading business school in France. Its campus is located next to the Bois de Boulogne and supports a strong international student body. Roughly one-fourth of Dauphine’s student population is made up of international students. Dauphine specializes in the fields of organizational sciences and decision making. It also offers courses in management, economy, law, political science, sociology, applied mathematics, information technology and data processing. Courses are predominantly taught in French, but numerous options are available to take coursework in English as well. To prepare for the immersion experience, students complete preparatory program or “stage” aimed at introducing visiting students to the French academic system and the campus. Admission to this program is selective.
Potential Excursions
API students participate excursions designed to help familiarize them with the culture and surrounding areas of their host city and country. The following is a listing of potential excursions for API Paris programs. API may need to modify the excursions offered in a given term due to travel restrictions or health and safety concerns.
Alsace & Strasbourg
The Alsace region is located in the Rhine plain in the northeastern part of France, bordered by Germany and Switzerland. Over the centuries Alsace has been back and of forth under the control of France and Germany. This has resulted in a uniquely bicultural identity, which is reflected in its architecture, cuisine, and dialect. The region is well known for its flowery villages with timbered houses, its wine road, its blue Vosges mountains and forests with pleasant pine scents as well as its medieval eagles nest castles. Strasbourg, the capital of the region, also plays a significant role in Europe: it is the formal seat of the European Parliament.
Angers
Capital of Anjou, Angers is a city of art and history, a haven of remarkable culture thanks to its castle, King René, and to its Museum of Fine Arts where visitors will discover works dating from the 14th to the 21st century. Students can visit the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Maurice and the Museum Jean Lurçat, which presents beautiful pieces of contemporary tapestry, echoed in the beautiful hangings of the Château d’Angers. Located in the Loire Valley, Angers also has a wealth of natural beauty thanks to its three rivers flowing into the Loire.
Bordeaux
Bordeaux is one of the largest cities in France and is located in the South West of the country, not far from the Atlantic Ocean. The center of a legendary winegrowing region, this vibrant and sophisticated city is a top gourmet and cultural destination. Synonymous with fine wines, Bordeaux is one of France’s most beautiful and elegant cities – indeed, half the city is Unesco-listed, making it the largest urban World Heritage site. Visitors appreciate both the monumental stone architecture and attractive nooks and crannies of this city, with its fascinating historical and cultural heritage around every corner. Also, it is now fastly connected to Paris with a new TGV line connecting both cities in just over two hours.
Discovery Day In The Ile De France Region
There is no need to go miles away from Paris to discover a rich and unexpected heritage. This excursion may follow in the footsteps of the impressionists (Auvers sur Oise, Chatou…), or seemingly take a journey to the middle ages (Provins), or visit Versailles off the beaten path.
Loire Valley
Visiting the Loire Valley palaces is like visiting 16th century Renaissance France when fortified medieval fortresses were transformed into delicate castles inspired by Italian architecture. Such is the case of le Château d’Amboise where Leonardo da Vinci was buried.
The Château de Chenonceau is an exceptional site not only because of its original design, the richness of its collections, its furniture and its decorations, but also because of its destiny, since it was loved, administrated and protected by women.
Depending on the program, the students may also enjoy a traditional boat ride on the Loire river or he splendor of Chambord’s castle and its exceptional architectural creation that draws its inspiration from the French tradition as much as from the new ideas of the Italian Renaissance.
“My language skills and confidence in speaking the language improved massively. Additionally, I met amazing people and had the summer of my life. It was definitely worthwhile.”
