Experiencing Spain with API

Program Summary

This intercultural communication class will include tours, museums, cathedrals, guest lectures, neighborhood exploration all to understand more about the culture we bring to new encounters and the culture we are experiencing. This course is designed to provide students with theoretical and practical understanding of the uniqueness of cultures, the resulting variations in communication styles and preferences, and to provide strategies and skills for successful communication across cultures, specifically Spain. This course is offered on campus every semester – why not venture off campus for this class in May 2024!

Wednesday, May 8th

Morning:

  • Arrival into MAD
  • API organized airport reception and transfer to program accommodations

Afternoon:

  • API cultural, health, and safety orientation
  • Neighborhood walking tour

Evening:

  • API organized group welcome dinner
Thursday, May 9th

Morning:

  • Breakfast at accommodations

Afternoon:

  • Lunch on own
  • Activity #1: Museo del Prado

Evening:

  • Dinner on own
Friday, May 10th

Morning:

  • Breakfast at accommodations
  • Guest Lecture #2: Topic TBD

Afternoon:

  • Activity #2: Visit to Reina Sofia National Art Museum
  • Debrief time w/ Dr. Lamm

  • Activity #4: Visit Real Madrid Stadium

  • Activity #5 Walking tour that includes the Plaza Mayor

Afternoon:

  • Free afternoon

Evening:

  • Activity #6: Cooking Class (dinner included)
Monday, May 13th

Afternoon:

  • Debrief time w/ Dr. Lamm

Evening:

  • Enjoy Chocolate con churros
  • Activity #7: Flamenco Show
Tuesday, May 14th

Day Trip

Morning:

  • Transportation to Toledo via Private bus

Afternoon:

  • API arranged group lunch

  • Activity #7: Visit to the Cathedral, Church of Santo Tomé, and the old Synagogue of St. Maria la Blanca

Evening:

  • API arranged farewell dinner

    Dr. Erica Lamm teaches a wide variety of communication courses, including communication theory, public speaking and business communication. She is a faculty advisor as well as MBA program director and assistant speech coach. She loves to travel and loves her cat Cricket.
