Program Description
Intellectual Culture and History in Dublin Ireland will be an academic enrichment opportunity for students. It is designed to broaden and deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of Irish intellectual culture, the historical setting which produced and sustained it, and contemporary people and institutions which still value it.
Students will have the opportunity to explore intellectual culture and history in the backdrop of Dublin and surrounding areas. The assortment of enriching experiences includes visits to: Trinity College (Ireland’ s oldest university); the monastic settlement of Glendalough (in ruins); the beautiful Powerscourt estate; and world-class collections at National Museum of Ireland, National Library of Ireland, and Museum of Literature.
Optional visits will be available to the medieval town of Kilkenny and the scenic village of Howth. Students will have many chances to learn about the intellectual heritage of Ireland at their own pace, in their own way, and according to their own likes and dislikes. Fostering genuine interest and lasting engagement is the ultimate goal of the trip.
