Program Description
Dive into the rich history, architecture, art of Rome on an 8-day journey that blends cultural discovery with academic engagement. Gain firsthand insight into the historical development of Rome through immersive tours and expert-led discussions.
Students will visit the most famous archeological sites, piazzas, museums, and churches of Rome. Highlights include touring the Pantheon, Roman Forum & Colosseum, the Vatican, San Clemente Excavations, Santa Maria in Trastevere and more!

While designed as the capstone to FAH 310 Studies in Architecture: Rome, The Eternal City, it is not a prerequisite nor is enrollment in the course required for the trip. Anyone is free to apply!

- Tour of Piazza Navona
- Visit to the Pantheon, Sant’Ignazio da Loyola, and the Fontana di Trevi
- Optional Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica
- Visit to and audioguide tour of Capitoline museums
- Visit to Roman Forum and Colosseum
- Optional visit to the Mausoleum of Augustus/Ara Pacis/Pizza di Spagna
- Visit to Santa Prassede medieval church
- Visit to San Clemente Excavations of one of Rome’s ancient basilicas
- Visit to the Basilica di San Giovanni
- Visit to Santa Maria in Trastevere
- Walking street tour of Rome’s Renaissance streets, including Ponte Sisto, Via Giulia, Campo de Fiori, and the Palazo Farnese
- Visit to the Vatica Museums, Sistine Chapel, and Saint Peter’s Basilica
- Tour of Roman Baroque-era sites, including the Santa Maria Della Vittoria church, the Church of Saint Andrew’s at Quirinal, and the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, and Sant’Andrea della Valle
- Visit to Galleria Villa Borghese
- Historical tour of Rome’s Fascist architecture

Background
Dr. Bentz is an art and architectural historian specializing in Renaissance Italy with years of experience living, teaching, and researching throughout the country. As Academic Director of Saint Anselm College’s Tuscania program, she brings firsthand expertise in Italian culture and the transformative experience of studying abroad. Her passion for Italy’s artistic heritage and deep knowledge make her an ideal guide for students discovering the wonders of Italian art, architecture, and history.

Background
Dr. Gustafson is a professor in the Politics Department at Saint Anselm College. Her teaching and research interests are in comparative politics and international relations. She is an enthusiastic supporter of global education, and has many years’ experience with supporting the College’s programs in Italy.
