How to Renew or
Apply For a PASSPORT
In order to travel internationally, you need a valid passport. If you have a passport already, you need to check the expiration date. Some countries require your passport to be valid for 6 months after your departure date!

Navigating the
Application Process
Knowing what to do next in the application process can be intimidating, but API can help! We recommend working your way through both processes below at the same time, as you will need to do both to go abroad. We’ve listed out the major steps to find an apply for your API program, AND to apply and get approval with your home university!
Prior to applying directly to the program through API, the Office of Global Opportunities recommends that all students complete mandatory OHIO paperwork for transfer credit programs. Applying Through API
Find your perfect program and get support throughout the application process with API!
Research Your Options
Use APIConnect to search by type of program, length, location, subject and more!
Speak With Your Advisor
The API application requires the approval of an academic advisor, study abroad advisor, guidance counselor, professor, or other key decision maker before you can be officially accepted.
Begin Your Online Application
Apply for your selected program via the yellow “Apply Now” button at the top of the program page! Don’t forget to apply for or renew your passport, as well as checking any visa requirements!
Next Steps
Once an application is complete, it generally takes 5-7 business days for the applicant to be accepted.
Applying Through Ohio
The Transfer Credit Approval Process (formerly the foreign study checklist/FSC) is required to maintain your enrollment as an Ohio University student. Complete the following steps in the GO App.
Admissions Approval
Confirms that the institution issuing your transcript is accredited by a national ministry of education and the credits earned can be accepted by Ohio University.
Academic Approval
Evaluates what courses will be available on your global experience and how they will transfer back to your DARS at Ohio University.
Budget and Financial Aid Approval
Understand total program cost as well as if and how financial aid can apply to your program costs.
Verification of Enrollment
Once you are on-site, you will submit a verification of enrollment form, which allows OHIO to confirm your enrollment and disburse any applicable financial aid.
