Here’s What’s Included:

  • On-site safety, health, and cultural orientation

  • Accommodation in host families for duration of the program– 2 students per family, three meals/day, laundry, and internet included

Experience Salamanca from 2021 UMass Students

Course Information

Students will have four hours of coursework – taught by local faculty at Universidad de Salamanca – Monday through Friday, starting with a language class for hours 1 and 2, and electives for hours of 3 and 4. Students will take a language placement test online before departing.

Beginner Level

9 credits total

One mandatory Spanish language course (4 credits)

Two content-based elective courses (2 credits each):

  • Build Your Vocabulary
  • Communicative Activities

One discussion session with UMass faculty and TAs (1 credit)

Spanish Majors and Minors

Intermediate Level

9 credits total

One mandatory Spanish language course (4 credits)
Two of the following content-based elective courses (2 credits each). The courses you’re enrolled in may depend on your degree requirements. Choose 1 class for the 3rd hour and 1 class for the 4th hour:

  • 3rd hour options (choose 1):
    • Conversación y redacción
    • Historia de la España contemporánea
    • Español de los negocios
  • 4th hour options (choose 1):
    • Literatura española e hispanoamericana
    • Cultura española
    • Prácticas de destrezas orales

One discussion session with UMass faculty and TAs (1 credit)

Non-Spanish majors and minors should take a basic Spanish language course at UMass before studying abroad with this program.
