Program Summary

Go beyond the classroom, gain cultural awareness, and develop skills to help you become more successful in a globalized community.

Sophomore neuroscience majors are encouraged to study in Seville, Spain in the spring of 2025.

Not a sophomore in 2025? No worries! Visit the Global Education Office — you may still be eligible to participate in this program.

About Seville, Spain

Neuroscience Course Info

Students will enroll in the following four Virginia Tech courses taught by local instructors at Universidad de Sevilla:

  • PSYC 2084: Psychology of Learning
  • STAT 3615: Biostatistics
  • NEUR 2026/2036: Intro to Neuroscience + Lab
  • NEUR 2464: Neuroscience in Society

*Please note that these courses are subject to minimum enrollments.

    Pathways Course Info

    Students may also enroll in an additional course at Universidad de Sevilla. Below are some sample classes to fulfill VT Pathways requirements while at the Universidad de Sevilla:

    • Social Psychology
    • Photographing the Literary Seville
    • Music and Society: Theory and Practice of Flamenco 
    • Photography: Theory and Techniques
    • Gender Views in Contemporary Spanish Literature and Film
    Housing & Meals

    Students may choose from three housing options:

    • Shared double room with local host
      • Three meals per day included
      • Upgrade to a single room for an additional fee
    • Shared double room in a traditional residencia

    • Single studio apartment in a modern dorm

    Activities & Excursions

    Excursions

    Students will participate in 1-2 overnight excursions during the semester. Below is a list of sample excursions that may be offered:

    • Lisbon, Portugal
    • Extremadura
    • Granada

    Cultural Activities: API will offer 3 – 4 cultural activities per month. Below is a list of sample activities that may be offered: 

    • Winery Tour
    • Chocolate and churros tasting
    • Learn how to prepare local cuisine in a cooking class
    • Flamenco Dance & Music show
    • Learn regional dances in a dance class
    • Visit to local fine arts museum

    Day Trips: Students will participate in 2 day trips during the semester. Below is a list of sample trip locations that may be offered:

    • Day trip to Cadiz
    • Day trip to Ronda

    Please note: Excursions, Cultural Activities, and Day Trips are subject to change depending on availability, weather, and other factors.

    Travel & Transportation

    Travel Documents:

    • This program requires a student visa.
    • Student visa applicants must have a current passport before applying for their student visa.
    • Be sure to apply for or renew your passport ASAP! 

      Transportation:

      • One group airport pickup in Madrid, Spain
      • Ground transportation on all activities, day trips, and excursions, as necessary
      • Local transportation card

      • Onsite cultural, health, and safety orientation
      • On-site Resident Director to implement and oversee the program itinerary and serve as an
        emergency contact available 24/7
      • Every Resident Director is thoroughly trained in emergency response and receives ongoing training and support. 
      Ut Prosim Abroad

      Students will volunteer and work with the community during their time abroad in Seville.

      Past community engagement projects in Seville include:

      • Collaboration with a local organization for families with hearing-impaired children. Students interact with the children in order for them to learn English in a playful environment at home or outside, always in the company of the family.
      • Students participate in the Night Brigades, a group of locals who meet once a week to bring food to people without shelter
      • Environmental volunteering: students plant new trees or clean up plastic from a nearby beach.
      • Collaborate with a local organization to prepare a holiday party for local children with disabilities
      • Students volunteer with pet rescue associations to take shelter dogs for a walk or visit and care for cats.

      Scholarships

      API provides multiple opportunities to gain scholarship funds for your program:
      • Early Bird: Available to all students!
      • Need-based: Identify yourself as eligible when you apply for your API program
      • Merit-based: Opportunities available for students with 3.5 GPA and above
